Wareeze Woodson: An Long-standing Love

Susana: Tell us about your writing journey and what it took to get published.

Wareeze: I’ve been an avid reader for years and have always rearranged the ending of the story to be acceptable myself, especially if it didn’t end in the proper manner. Only happy ever-after endings are allowed, and even those do not always end as I would like.

Years ago, I forgot how many, I attended a seminar on writing. We were encouraged to submit a few pages for the agents to review. When my spin arrived to talk to an agent, he told me I was too fat and unattractive to continue writing. He suggested I give up. In his opinion, it was a waste of my time as I’d never make it.

That was certainly discouraging, but after attending composition classes and growing much older, I joined the group Romance Writers of America. One would say, I am a glutton for punishment and stubborn to boot. I joined a critique group in my provincial chapter of RWA and polished my craft. I met a publisher at The Lone Star convention who decided to take a chance on me. Now I’m a published author. A long and sometimes very hard tour, but I made it.

Susana: What inspired you to write An Enduring Love ?

Wareeze: A neighbor lost her husband during the war, but he returned. Instead of going their separate ways, they worked to develop intensify a life together again. I admire that effort.

Susana: What’s the most interesting fact/tidbit you learned while researching your book?

Wareeze: Most of us realize how few rights women had in the 1800s, but tons of readers still count on the heroine to act as women do today. Fat chance! A husband had total rights of ownership of the children, crudely put, but true. He could forbid his wife the privilege of even seeing her children if he absolute to do so. When a woman married, even a wealthy woman, every dime became her husband’s. He could spend it on anything he so desired, even gamble it away and deny her a new gown at his whim. A m could arrange a trust fund for...

Hear about of a Woman

Anne- Laure was stainless. She wore underwear so delicate it could only be hand-washed and she had perfect nails and lustrous, onyx hair that she’d never tried to highlight, a trend that she considers vulgar and filthy. . . .

When she came to bed, she did so smelling of rosemary with her dark hair in a high bun, hair I had been besotted with back in grad school, but now no longer touched. . . . .

Anne had on her “special night” fragrance, a heady mix of bergamot and neroli, along with a silk rose blouse and wide-legged, wool pants with heels.

– Courtney Maum, I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You

I’ll never be remotely French. I’m relatively attached, to my machine-washable, cotton, Hanes 6-packs. Also I’ve started highlighting my hair. Around age 30 I became less concerned about looking like I’m annoying too hard and more concerned about looking like I’m not trying at all.

But I would like to smell nice.

My first real perfume was Estee Lauder’s “Beautiful.” It was a wedding alms from my godmother. (The advertising campaign works well, apparently.) It’s a lovely scent, especially after an hour or so, but the “top notes” that hit my nose upon the first spray are not my favorite. I think they are “immature” or “floral” scents, but they smell harsh and chemical-y to me.

I moved on to Estee Lauder’s “Pleasures,” and I’m almost through my second bottle. It’s warmer but still, I’ve decided, more refrigerate and floral than I’d like.

What to try next?

I’ve fallen in love with bergamot, since using a body butter scented with bergamot oil. Also I love the smell of cardamom. I keep a bottle of cardamom pods in my gusto cabinet. Handed down to me when my sister moved, they’re long past the “use by” date, but I stick my nose in the bottle for instant aromatherapy.

And smelling like rosemary is a seraphic idea, isn’t it?

I don’t really know where to begin, especially as I have limited options in my town. Pinrose has a fun program that suggests scents to you based on your style, color, and music preferences. It is restricted to its own line of a dozen or so scents, though.

Based on an internet search, I think I might like a scent called A Bientot by Jacques Zolty (bergamot, cardamom, and rosemary!), but I’m...

Machinery review

Apparatus review
Prunus express stove with piezo ignition – worked good. It did boil water slower than the more popular Jet boil but I liked it.
Leki Corklite hiking poles – I can’t into I never broke these. I fell many times and watched the pole bend and assumed it would break. Did bend them twice and for them straightened. Highly recommend.
GSA halulite minimalist coolest – arrant, small, light
Sea to. Summit pack cover – worked so so. Pack still seemed to get wet or very damp after a while. Better than nothing.
Big Agnes fly creek 1 & 2 – I like both of these tents. Did have micro splashes of not make sense come thru the 1 man at the crest of it during a heavy rainstorm. I did have the footprint which helped keep me dry when I would set up in the rain. Lightweight recommend.
Black diamond spot headlamp – perfect and has red assault function so u do t blind people.
Mountain Hardwear epic rain jacket – with side pit zips I love this jacket. Breathed well but like anything like this it would get hot and do heart from sweat even in cold months.
Marmot précip pants – too hot didn’t breath well. Used mainly on cold winter days to stay warm and lay out wind when resting.
Ems Icarus down jacket with hood – great jacket, very warm. So many people wish they had one with a hood like derive.
Granite creek convertible pants-summer – great and comfortable. Never wore thin even with all the rock sitting and sliding down.
MH Mesa convertible pants – winter – major, comfortable
Thermarest 40th anniversary self inflating reg pad – loved this pad. Never had one issue and didn’t even put a protective sheet underneath when in shelters. Very quiet too dissimilar to those dreadful Big Agnes Air core pads.
Mountain hardwear 45 synthetic bag – I liked this bag but when it was below 55 I felt cold but I sleep cold.
Rei 0 degree down bag – Very over. Issue I had was from the upper thigh down it was constricting a bit keeping my legs close together. If you like to sleep with a leg kicked out consider a square bag.
Sea to Summit reactor liner – refuse of money. Didn’t seem to keep me any warmer so just used an added layer of LLBean silk long underwear. It did manage to always get me tangled up like a fish in a net.
Keen targhee 2 shoes – true-love them. Wore right out of box. Being waterproof they took a...
